Fellow Nigerians,
As we mark another Independence Day, it is a moment not only for celebration but also for reflection — reflection on our resilience, our unity, and the stories that define our national spirit.
One of those stories is the legacy of the Mammy Market. Born not out of luxury, but of necessity, courage, and resilience, the Mammy Market has grown into a national institution. It symbolizes the ingenuity of women, the sacrifice of military families, and the indomitable spirit of Nigeria itself.
It is in this spirit that I am honored to introduce my forthcoming book:
Mammy Market: Women, Resilience & the Spirit of Nigeria
Preface: The Mammy Market was not born of luxury, but of necessity, resilience, and love. Originating in Enugu’s 82 Division in the 1980s, it has grown into a national institution, symbolizing women’s courage, military family sacrifice, and Nigeria’s indomitable spirit. This book both honors that legacy and calls for action to empower widows, support literacy, and build inclusive prosperity.
This book is more than a historical account, it is a platform for empowerment and a call to reflection. It will be available in hard copies and e-copies, to be published on the AmberStreams website and Amazon, ensuring accessibility both locally and globally.
We are grateful for the confirmed partnership of the Michael Legend Hope and Relief Initiative (MLHRI), who will play a vital role in mobilization and advocacy, and to My Affairs Nigeria Ltd, the official printing partner. Discussions are also ongoing with Wema Bank toward opening a dedicated project account for transparency and sustainability.
As part of this year’s Independence celebrations, we are preparing for the official Book Review & Unveiling later this October — with dates and venue to be announced in the coming days.
In parallel, familiarization and discussions remain ongoing with the new leadership of the Nigerian Legion regarding the upcoming Mammy Market Trade Fair. This book complements that effort by sustaining momentum, keeping the story alive in public consciousness, and laying a foundation for wider empowerment initiatives.
Disclaimer: This book is a personal initiative of the author and independent of the Nigerian Legion or any of its organs.
On this Independence Day, I invite you to stand with us in amplifying this message of resilience, empowerment, and national pride.
